The research projet LUCO - Collaborative Urban Laboratory for Land Use Monitoring, Planning and Sustainable Development was one of the 21 selected projects for funding, under the 2nd joint call FCT- AKDN, resulting from the Scientific and Technological Cooperation Protocol between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and the Imamat Ismaili.
The main goal of the project is to establish an Urban Collaborative Lab prototype grounded by geodata, technology and institutional cooperation, to support development areas such as sustainable urban planning, climate change awareness and risk reduction, empowerment through knowledge, capacitation and training. The Lab will incorporate and operationalize an Urban Land Use Observatory for monitoring and assessing land use changes, creating and building scientific and technical capacity in Maputo area which could be applied as a matrix for other African urban areas.
